Volkswagen’s ID3 is so named as it is the 3rd generation of their vision of the what the people’s car (or Volkswagen) should be. The first generation naturally being the Beetle, then the Golf, and now for an all-electric future comes the fully electric, from the ground up ID3.

This car is indeed everything a Volkswagen should be - good looking, reliable, well-built and practical. The surprise is that, at least compared to earlier VW EVs, its truly up there with the best when it comes to efficiency too. The 58kWh (usable) battery offers a range of over 210 miles in the real world, comparing well with Tesla’s Model 3 RWD. The ID3 is RWD too, the single motor will give a 0-60 time of under 10 seconds making it sprightly on the road. The cabin design gives it enviable room in the front and rear, with importantly, good head room for the driver and passengers.

Two TFT screens give the driver plenty of information, and of course, connivence features such as Navigation and Apple CarPlay are standard, Apple Maps also giving mapping instructions in the driver display as well as the main screen, allowing the passenger to use other functions in the main screen simultaneously.

The ID3 Pro comes extremely well specified with adaptive cruise control, 7 speaker audio system with subwoofer, USB ports front and rear, tinted glass (privacy at the rear), keyless go, ID light, dual zone climate control and heated seats and electric folding mirrors.
